Electric vehicle charging points change the fire risk in a car park. An incident in the charging zone can spread to the whole car park and to the building above. Passive fire protection confines the fire to where it started and protects the loadbearing structure.

Why the charging zone needs attention
Electric vehicles are safe, but a battery fire lasts long and is hard to put out. In a low underground space the heat builds up at the ceiling slab. If that slab carries a building, the damage does not stay in the car park.
Existing and new car parks
In existing spaces the protection is added without interrupting operation: cladding of beams and columns, partitions around the charging bays, sealing of penetrations. Every car park is different, so the solution is designed after a site visit.
